Adelaide Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara and Wenasa Housing Project In Sri Lanka
Over the past 3 years, the ASBV has actively involved in community activities in the target country, particularly in natural disaster relief programs, in partnership with the Wenesa Sathkaraka Parshadaya (Wenesa), a not-for-profit volunteer organization in Sri Lanka. In 2016 and 2017, the ASBV with the generous support of their members donated a total of $10, 081 towards the construction of 4 new houses for the benefit of the victims affected by floods and landslides in Kegalle, Sri Lanka.

Urgent call for donations to help victims of recent flood disaster to hit Sri Lanka
You may be aware that torrential rains has caused flash flooding and landslides resulting more than 200 deaths while thousands of people have lost their homes and nearly half a million people being affected. As per the Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka, around 631,346 People belonging to 164,264 families were affected in 15 Districts due to the flood situation.203 Deaths and 96 missing reported as per the situation report issued by DMC on 31-05-2017 1200hrs. Further, over 1,508 houses fully destroyed and around 7617 houses partially damage. Approximately 77,643 people belonging to 19,876 families were located at 368 safe locations.
While relief efforts and rescue operations are already underway in Sri Lanka, we could assist our fellow countrymen from this end. To this very effect, Adelaide Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara has already set up a “Help Sri Lanka Fund” to support the victims of natural disaster in Sri Lanka to start from scratch and rebuild their lives.
